Technology Transfer | A Series of 8 Seminars

The series of seminars dedicated to Technology Transfer, promoted by the CNR Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnologies (CNR-IFN), began on October 24, 2025, in Milan.

The initiative aims to explore tools, strategies, and real-world experiences that enable the transformation of scientific research into practical solutions for the industrial and social sphere.

Throughout the series, participants will examine the various aspects of Technology Transfer — the set of activities such as evaluation, protection, dissemination, valorization, and commercialization — that bring technologies developed in academic and research settings to the market, including the management of intellectual property.
A fundamental process for building a solid bridge between research, industry, and society.

Among the key contributors is the CNR National Institute of Optics (CNR-INO), a partner of QCS AppLab, which will take part in the November 13 seminar with two distinguished representatives: Prof. Cataliotti and Dr. Mustarelli.

Their talk will focus on the strategic role of the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI) —specifically its Spoke 8 and the Cascade Calls financed by NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) — which are fostering new public–private collaborations in the field of quantum technologies.

The QCS AppLab Joint Laboratory: A Concrete Case Study

During the November 13 seminar, the QCS AppLab project will also be presented.
This joint public–private laboratory was established precisely thanks to NQSTI’s Cascade Calls and serves as a concrete example of how research outcomes can generate real-world impact—transferring knowledge, skills, and results from the research domain to the production sector and, ultimately, to end users.

QCS AppLab brings together research institutions, universities, spin-offs and start-ups with the shared goal of developing innovative solutions that address real societal needs, promoting the value of quantum technologies and accelerating the transition from basic research to industrial applications

The Seminars

The opening seminar took place on October 24, 2025, in Milan, featuring Dr. De Liberato (Research Director at CNR-IFN) and Dr. Pingue (Head of the Technology Transfer Fund at CDP Venture Capital SGR).
The event provided an opportunity to present the technology transfer model adopted by CDP Venture Capital, with an analysis of the results achieved so far and a look ahead to future developments.
